 Professional
Practice
Roslyn is a Chartered Accountant and worked in public
practice for 6 years early in her career. During this time
she quickly took on a role as mentor and trainer for all new
trainees. Roslyn specialised in accounting and taxation for
the rural sector, working with large and small primary production
businesses diversified across a large range of rural enterprises.
During 2001 she consulted to the Department of Finance and
Administration as a budgeting specialist helping with the
implementation of accrual accounting and zero based budgeting.
Due to a high demand for accounting staff in Canberra, Roslyn
stayed with the department for 7months preparing the monthly
financial statements for the Resource Management Framework
Group within the Department.
During 2003/04 Roslyn helped out one of the large Clubs in
Canberra with their monthly financial reports while the Club
recruited a new CFO. This process ended up taking longer than
expected and Roslyn worked as the CFO for about 8months while
still managing her own training and consulting company.
She currently provides financial assessment and consultancy
services to a number of government departments including DAFF,
the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources and the
ACT government. She is currently a panel member for the ACT
Government Business Springboard Program and has acted as a
member of advisory panels for the selection of commonwealth
grant recipients.
University and TAFE Lecturer
Roslyn has worked as an Academic at the University of Canberra,
the University of New England and the Armidale & District
TAFE. Student groups ranged from undergraduate to post graduate
students; internal and external students; accounting, management
and rural science students; Australian and overseas students,
and visiting business groups.
As an Academic she was responsible for the administration
of student groups and the development of all course materials.
As many students are separated from their family and friends
for the first time, a good lecturer is also compassionate
to the needs of their students. Roslyn always worked with
her students in order to help them achieve their goals.
At both the University of New England and the University
of Canberra, Roslyn was instrumental in establishing a link
between the accounting student body and the professional associations.
Roslyn also implemented the first Young Australia Achievement
Program at the University of Canberra.
Roslyn has also worked as a workshop facilitator and examiner
for the professional qualifications with the Institute of
Chartered Accountants Australia and has been an assessor for
the Institute of Public Administration Australia annual reports
awards.
Trainer
Australian Capital Training Group Pty Ltd was incorporated
in 1994 and is owned by Roslyn and Nick Jackson. The company
has provided training for both the private and public sector
and covered a vast range of accounting issues; from introductory
accounting through to the professional qualifications with
the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA).
Accounting training has been developed and delivered in conjunction
with a number of other training centres, and training has
also been provided direct to numerous government departments.
Roslyn has extensive experience in international training,
mostly to our Asia-Pacific neighbours. She has been responsible
for the development and delivery of government financial training
to the Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau, Canberra's sister
city.
Roslyn is very aware of the government financial reforms
and has been extensively involved in the delivery of accrual
budgeting training. She has developed in conjunction with
the University of Canberra and the Department of Finance and
Administration, a suite of training modules covering the Australian
government budget process.
In conjunction with the Institute of Company Directors and
independently, Roslyn has been providing training to many
company directors including the Boards of many Clubs within
the ACT and other not-for-profit organisations. Her diverse
training delivery requires Roslyn to be across both private
and public sector reporting requirements and the international
accounting standard.
